EDEN Agar Agar Flakes is a traditional sea vegetable gelatin, odorless and tasteless, created by a long and slow process combining a mixture of sea vegetables with red algae of the species Gelidium and Gracilaria. EDEN Agar Agar is highly prized as a pure vegetable grade natural gelatin and is a much healthier alternative to commercial chemical gelatins for animals.
The eight varieties of wild sea vegetables used in EDEN Agar Agar flakes are harvested by hand in pristine temperate waters in the fall, then spread out on beaches in the sun. In winter, the dried plants are transported to the mountains where they are cooked for several hours in water to soften them.
Unlike commercially produced agar flakes, EDEN agar flakes are naturally made without sulfuric acid as a softening agent, or inorganic bleach and dye used to blanch sea vegetables and rid them of their odor. . When using EDEN Agar Agar Flakes to make firm gelatin for fruit salads or gelatin for children, use 1 and 1/2 tablespoon of agar flakes per cup of water, tea or juice. If you want a softer, jello-like texture, use 1 tablespoon of flakes per cup of water, tea, or juice. If the juice is acidic enough, such as grape, orange or lemon, a little more flakes will be needed to achieve a jello-like texture.
